Enter the perilous demon world, collecting items and managing your resources to stay alive. Open your Third Eye to see between worlds, uncover secrets and solve puzzles.

History

Sorry We’re Closed began production in November 2020 as a pandemic side-project. It is C.B. and Tom’s debut indie game. Working in the evenings and weekends, they created their first 3D models, textures and animations.

In 2021 they submitted a trailer for Sorry We’re Closed to EEK3, an indie horror showcase, and received a very warm reception. In 2022 they formed their company, à la mode games, and signed with publisher Akupara Games. From late 2022, C.B. and Tom have been working on the project full-time.

Selected Coverage

  • "Sorry We're Closed is cool […] Character designs are punky, trashy, sexy. Accent colours are loud. Weapons and effects are bold […] like Silent Hill by way of Persona and Paradise Killer. God it looks great. It's fun, too"
    - Alice O'Connor, ‘Our 75 most anticipated PC games of 2024’, Rock Paper Shotgun

  • "This is an absolute fever dream love letter to a really specific era of PS2 horror games. Namely Killer7 meeting Silent Hill, via a neon filter, to create a sort of sexy, fixed camera survival horror game full of clever ideas and that just absolutely serves… style."
    - Leon Hurley, GamesRadar

  • "It’s basically an incredibly gay Silent Hill […] The characters are nicely designed and all of them have a very big queer aesthetic going on which is obviously awesome […] tight controls and a really nice combat system and it’s added that to the aesthetic and the general mood of PSX Silent Hill. Some really nice dialogue as well, like really well written."
    - James Stephanie Sterling, Podquisition 461

  • "‘What if Silent Hill was neon and gay as fuck’ is not something I would have thought would be pulled off successfully but dangit, I really like where this thing is going. They’ve got this unique otherworld-flipping mechanic that’s more interesting (and convenient) than any other Silent Hill game has done so far! Very technically impressive! This thing just oozes cool…"
    - Jess O'Brien (AKA: VoidBurger), Hi, it's Jess O'Brien's GOTY 2023

  • "Sorry We’re Closed brought the posh cyber-noir style into occult reality […] nothing short of heart-thumping modern psychic flair…"
    - Luna Arcana, Dread XP

  • "…the creepy atmosphere and low-poly graphics dug their claws into me hard […] fixed camera angles and some very inspired character designs really elevate this title through the ranks of retro-inspired horror games."
    - Jamie Depledge, BestNerdLife
